Kyle Richards says she asked for a role on the new ‘Little House on the Prairie’
Kyle Richards is ready to trade her famous zipcode for a return to the prairie—revealing she pitched herself for the Netflix reimagining of Little House on the Prairie.
“I would love to make an appearance. Don’t think I didn’t ask them!” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills OG tells Entertainment Weekly at The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th premiere event on Aug. 4 at The Lobster Club in NYC.
At just five years old, Richards began playing Alicia Sanderson Edwards, the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, on Little House on the Prairie, which follows author Laura Ingalls Wilder’s family’s move across the Midwest in the late 19th century. Richards recurred on the series from 1975 to 1982. She also appeared as a different character for a one-episode arc during season 5.
“They’re like, ‘Well, it starts before that you’re on the show,’” Richards continues of her conversation with the creatives behind the new Little House. “I’m like, ‘Well, whatever. I can do a cameo and play someone else.’ So, yeah, I want to be on the new Little House on the Prairie!’”
While she hasn’t been offered a role just yet, Richards did tune in when the series started streaming on Netflix in July.
“I have watched the new Little House on the Prairie and it’s very touching to me. It’s very nostalgic. I was telling my daughters, I can’t help but walk down memory lane watching that and seeing the man who’s playing Mr. Edwards, who was my dad on the show, and everything,” Richards says.
Warren Christie plays Mr. Edwards in Netflix’s Little House, a role portrayed by Victor French on the original show.
“I can remember, as a little girl, and I was only 5 when I started that, what it felt like to put on that clothing — the little hook [I needed] to put my shoes on for the buckles,” Richards recalls to EW. “It’s just really taking me back.”
When EW noted that some of the social media discourse about the new Little House was how attractive the cast is, including Luke Bracey’s Charles “Pa” Ingalls, she agreed —but clarifies this is nothing new.
“Well, Michael Landon was hot!” she says of the original Pa. “I know it sounds weird to say the number because I was a little girl, but even as a little girl, I knew that man was good-looking. But I actually sent a screenshot to my friends the other day and I’m like, ‘The dads in Little House on the Prairie are really hot.’ Mr. Edwards is hot too! It’s a little weird that the guy playing my dad is really hot, but yeah, they’re good looking.”
